Historian Roberts and poet Gaspar speak at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, Dec. 5

Kathleen Ryan Comisky Roberts speaks at 2pm in the Wattles Family Gallery

Two authors – historian Kathleen Ryan Comiskey Roberts and poet Frank X. Gasper – will speak about their work at the New Bedford Whaling Museum this Sunday, December 5, during the annual Holiday Stroll festivities.

Mrs. Roberts will greet the public from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Old Dartmouth Historical Society Wattles Family Gallery. Professor Frank X. Gaspar will speak at 3:30 p.m. in the Cook Memorial Theater. The authors will sign copies of their books, available in the Museum store.

A former teacher now in her nineties, Kathleen Ryan Comiskey Roberts originally wrote Secrets of Old Dartmouth in 1959 for use in the Dartmouth Public Schools. This educational and entertaining history gives a vivid picture of what life in the 1600s was like in “Old Dartmouth” Published by Vineyard Sound Books, royalties from the work will assist the Dartmouth Educational Foundation. Frank X. Gaspar speaks at 3:30pm in the Cook Memorial Theater

Critically acclaimed American poet, novelist, and professor, Frank Xavier Gaspar is the author of four books of poetry – The Holyoke (1988), Mass for the Grace of a Happy Death (1995), A Field Guide to the Heavens (2002) and Night of a Thousand Blossoms (2004)  – as well as the novel Leaving Pico (1999). The Holyoke won the 1988 Morse Poetry Prize. Out of print for several years and now reissued in an entirely new edition, it is published by the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth as part of its Portuguese in the Americas Series.  Also available at Baker Books

  1. Great job Mr. Motta! I am looking forward to today’s book signing! I toured the Wattles Gallery yesterday, and must say, I was very impressed! Visitors to the Whaling Museum, will be quite entertained with Ms. Roberts. She is an amazing woman!
